Should We Bring Back Gloves?

by Jenny Bryde 5. October 2014 09:17

Looking at any wedding pic from the early days of photography through even the 1970s, it seemed a common thing that brides wore gloves.  A nod to current fashion trends of being appropriately dressed from head to toe perhaps?  Not sure, but somewhere in the 80s this trend sort of died, and now we rarely see bridal gloves.  I'm thinking there might be movement for a comeback though.  Check out these "natchomomma's" styles that are available for today's brides!

It's Almost Spring - How About Some Pink?

by Jenny Bryde 12. March 2014 01:11

We are days away from officially saying goodbye to Winter, and if Mother Nature didn't take the hint from all of our griping, herhaps she will adhere to the official calendar.  Looking foward to spring has me focusing around pretty pastels and in particular, pink.  So many shades that are complimentary to so many skin tones!  This week I'm drawn to this color, so I thought we'd take a tour of some fabulous places to find infinite choices of pink bridesmaid dresses.

First up - Nordsdrom who is featuring several key colors this season, one of which is "blush".

Next up is one of my favorite places to shop for pretty dresses that double as great bridesmaid dresses - JCrew.  Check out their wide selection of styles and hues!

And last but not least is a great go to for wedding frocks - David's Bridal.  They have a huge array of colors and styles for your selection, so check out their pink!

So whether you're on team pink with me or prefer team green, blue, yellow, or orange, I hope the warmer weather around the corner inspires you to go dress shopping with your bridesmaids!  Happy hunting!

Singing Down the Aisle?

by Jenny Bryde 16. February 2014 00:54

I'm going to try really hard to deliver this one with a straight face.  I am totally for incorporating your own style into your wedding with unique traditions, decor, and style.  I applaud anyone who is willing to think outside of the gift box, and so I should be giving a standing ovation for the new trend I've heard so much about - singing down the aisle.  If you were to go on to YouTube right now and search for "bride singing down the aisle", you'll find not one but many videos of ceremonies where the bride is belting out a tune as she walks down the aisle.  (Click on the picture to see the videos I'm discussing.)

Here's why I start to chuckle and shake my head a bit:

1) A song is typically three minutes long.  A walk down an aisle is only about thirty seconds even if you walk really, really, really slowly.  There's a lot of dead time where the bride, groom, and wedding guest don't know what to do with themselves.  Incredibly awkward.

2) I feel like it's a bit self-centered, and yes I know that a lot of the focus of the wedding day is on the bride, but come on.  A wedding AND American Idol?  Too much for me.

3) Since a bride is definitely going to be getting this moment on tape and needs good sound amplification, the bride is either wearing a headset (unattractive) or holding a mike instead of a bouquet (sad).

4) The poor, poor, poor, poor grooms just stand there at the end of that verrrrrry long aisle with no idea what to do.  Being on the spot in front of a lot of people for three minutes feels like an eternity.  Don't do that to your man.  He may tell you he's okay with it, or you might think this would be a fun way to surprise him.  I'm here to tell you that he will not like it, and it's not a nice surprise.

Am I just being cynical because my dog woke me up at 4am today?  Please feel free to chime in and speak your mind!  On the flip side, I'd also like to hear what you think about a groom singing a song to a bride.

Trend Alert - Showing Some Skin!

by Jenny Bryde 11. December 2013 01:05

How do we feel about a blushing bride being not so bashful?  Lately I've been noticing a lot more skin peeping through all the yards of bridal fabric.  Even though it's pretty cold outside right now, these brides are not afraid to show off what they've got.  While on first encounter, someone might think of "see through dress" as not so great an idea for a bride, but check out these tasteful dresses that leave a little less to the imagination.

Tres jolie, non?
