2013 Wedding Statistics - Wow!

Do you like to compare yourself to other couples planning a wedding?  Here’s some food for thought then…

Recently TheKnot.com polled its users and released its annual survey results.  Below you will find the top statistics of 2013.  How does your wedding match up?

·         Average Wedding Cost: $29,858 (excludes honeymoon)

·         Most Expensive Place to Get Married: Manhattan, $86,916 average spend

·         Least Expensive Place to Get Married: Idaho, $16,159 average spend

·         Average Spent on a Wedding Dress: $1,281

·         Average Marrying Age: Bride, 29; Groom, 31

·         Average Number of Guests: 138

·         Average Number of Bridesmaids: 4 to 5

·         Average Number of Groomsmen: 4 to 5

·         Most Popular Month to Get Engaged: December (16%)

·         Average Length of Engagement: 14 months

·         Most Popular Month to Get Married: June and September (15% each)

·         Popular Wedding Colors: Blue (35%), Purple (26%), Pink (25%), Metallics (25%)

Percentage of Destination Weddings: 24

For me, a couple of items popped out as surprising.  First, that the average cost of a wedding now reaches nearly $30,000!  Regionally, I think our average around the Quad Cities is a bit lower, but still.  Dang! The other surprising stat was the last one that states that a quarter of all weddings are destination weddings!  I would have thought this was a much lower number, but maybe people are wising up to the idea that you can whisk away to somewhere beautiful with your closest family and friends, have an amazing time, and spend half of what you would with a huge at home wedding.  I think they’re on to something…
