Pretty, Pretty Pastels!

by Jenny Bryde 30. March 2015 00:44

Winter is so last year, and I'm sure you'll all join me in a collective "Yippee!!"  Gone are the piles of grey/brown snow, and soon the beautiful colors of spring will be making their debut.  With a reprieve of cold temperatures this last week we haven't seen the flowers pop through the earth just yet, but soon, my lovelies, soon!  In the meantime, I'm going to prepare for the festivities of florals that will be arriving shortly by daydreaming about a beautiful spring palette.  A rainbow of pastels (Easter anyone?) is my inspiration, and here are my picks from this color scheme.  What do you think?  Happy Spring!!

Planning for Spring Flowers

by Jenny Bryde 16. January 2010 04:47

As I sit here typing, I keep glancing out my window at the gray gloom that is hovering over the Quad Cities. The word "bleh" comes to mind. I have decided to rip my mind out of this mid-winter coma by looking ahead at what is to come after the snow melts away in Marchish...

Let's look at some flowers today that will be in season in our area for Spring weddings! My hope is that not only will a little color do our eyes some good, but it will also help you Spring brides and grooms to have a bit of a guide on what to select for your bouquets, centerpieces, etc. Remember that picking flowers that are blooming in season is key to saving big bucks on your floral budget! Talk to your florist or wedding planner about options that are available in your wedding season!

Here we go! I've put together a mosaic of lovelies, and if you scroll below, I will let you know in what colors you can find each of these flowers. The flowers are in alpha order from left to right, btw...

First Row of Flowers:

Anemone * Blue, red, pink, white * Jan-May and Aug-Dec.

Bells of Ireland * Green * January-October

Boronia * Pink * April-May

Second Row of Flowers:

Casa Blanca Lily * White * January-October

Daffodil * Yellow * January-Early May

Delphinium * White, Blue * April- October

Hyacinth * Purple, Pink or White

Third Row of Flowers:

Lilacs * Violet or White

Narcissus * White

Peony * Pink or White * Late Spring – Early Summer

Ranunculus * white, pink, red, orange and yellow * February-May

Fourth Row of Flowers:

Star Gazer Lily * Pink and White * January-October

Sweetpea * white, pink, red/coral, and lavender/purple * December-May

Tulip * Many colors, including white, pink, yellow, red, and purple * December-April

Waxflower * pinky purple and white

Flower availability is dependent on a lot of factors including time of year, weather patterns, florist connections, and your budget. Your florist is the best person to speak to in order to answer all of your flower questions. There may be even more Spring flowers and flowers that are available year-round that you can use in your wedding decor! Have fun!
