Going Green With Your Wedding Planning

by Jenny Bryde 19. November 2009 11:19

It seems like "going green" has been a term that has been around forever, but only recently have the majority of masses given it serious consideration.  I remember growing up never even thinking of separating out paper, plastic, and glass from the general garbage.  Shucks...the only reason we recycled cans was to get the five cent deposit back...

But lately, everyone's heads are turned, and the masses have gotten into the green game.  While we've gotten considerably better at recycling and being mindful and less wasteful in our everyday lives, weddings in general could take a major step forward in going green.  Where do you start?  Well first, let's take a look at some of these alarming stats...

  • 2.3 million: Number of couples that get married in the US each year. That breaks down to more than 6,300 weddings a day.

  • $20,000: The average budget of a wedding in the U.S.; this number increases to £16,000 ($31,222) in the U.K. and decreases to €12,000 ($15,782) in France.

  • 14.5 tonnes: The amount of CO2 created by the average wedding.

These are just a few of the facts presented by Discovery.com's Planet Green Guide to Weddings: http://tinyurl.com/y94dmde

On the site, you will find volumes of information that you can use to go green with your wedding planning.  Statistics, tips, buying guides, helpful books, websites, and more can be found so that your wedding's carbon footprint is minimized.  :)
