Simple vs. Ornate: What's Your Wedding Dress Style?

by Jenny Bryde 9. June 2014 00:47

Clean classic lines?  Or feathers, beads, and ruffles?  Your wedding dress is a big decision as it should be flattering to the bride while reflecting her tasts while at the same time setting the tone for the entire wedding.  Is this a formal wedding?  A fun wedding?  A relaxed wedding?  Today I'm featuring five simple and five ornate dresses.  Which set do you prefer?

Here are the simple dresses:

Beautiful chifon sleeves and a simple train:

Sheer fabric and low key ruffles:

Clean lines and minimal bling:

Lightweight fabric and a streamlined silhouette:

A classic tailored look with some simple embellishments:

And now for some ornate dresses:

A mesh back with ornate crystal beadwork:

Enough tulle to make this bride appear to be sitting on a cloud:

A deconstructed look pulled off beautifully:

Feathers, beads, and ruffles galore:

A million layers of ruffles offset the mermaid silhouette:

So what do you think?  Are you a more demure and simple bride?  Or do you have a penchant for something...more?

White, white, white, white, white everywhere...a girl could go blind!  Some of you I know are adding pops of color to your wedding ensemble so that it's not white overkill.  Lately, I've been really drawn to the metallic color family, and the good news is, so is the shoe industry.  Today, I present for your consideration, some of my favorite finds in the latest metallic shoes...

From left to right, top row to bottom:  Brenda by RSVP, Dasha by Romantic Soles, Faithfully Yours by Poetic License, Danee by Nine West, Tipton by Michael Antonio, Sawyer by Kate Spade New York, Rosina by J. Renee, Venezia by Enzo angiolini, Air Tali OT Wedge 40 by Cole Haan, and Ayannah by BCBGeneration.

I found all these shoes on Zappos.com, so if you're wondering about a pair, head on over and check out their amazing selection of shoes!  Metallics?  Got 'em.  And just about everything else...

One Week Until the Davenport Jaycees Bridal Expo!

by Jenny Bryde 21. January 2012 15:11
It’s here, it’s here, it’s here! One week away lies one of the most important wedding related events that you will attend other than your wedding! The Davenport Jaycee’s Annual Bridal Expo is happening next Saturday from 9-4pm at the Davenport River Center. So mark your calendar, shine your shoes, and grab your best mates as you get ready to attend.

If you’ve been to a wedding show before then prepare to be amazed at the sheer size of this one. If you’ve never been to a wedding show before then buckle your seatbelts because it’s time to jump in with both feet! At the show you will find wedding vendors of ever type who are all dying to be a part of your big day. Photographers, florists, bakers, planners, musicians, travel companies, and more will be there to provide information, answer questions, and best of all, have fabulous give aways and prizes throughout the day! For example, if you visit the Jaycee’s booth, they are giving away an awesome photography package from Luxe Photography for 8 hours of service! Drool-worthy prize! And that’s just one!

Here’s my most important insider’s tip – Be sure to visit the QCWeddings.com booth FIRST before you go to any other booths. Why? Because we’ll have free information labels for you to use as you enter all the contest and sign up for info throughout your tour of the show. I can tell you that with nearly 100 booths to see, your hand will nearly cramp up and fall off if you try to hand write your info over and over again. So stop by and see us. We’ll hook you up! After you visit us, go nuts! Slap those info labels down wherever you heart desires!

Tickets for the show are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. You can purchase tickets in advance at any Quad City Area Hy-Vee. Again, this wedding show is the one to see, and it’s such a blast! What makes it even better is when you bring your entourage along to help you juggle all the freebies and info packets that you’ll receive! It’s a great way to get the moms and sisters and bridesmaids together, so give them a call and make your plans to visit the show!

Structured or Unstructured - The Great Hair Debate!

by Jenny Bryde 17. September 2011 04:06

You've spent a fortune on the dress and the accessories, and now it's time to decide how your noggin' is going to look.  Will you choose your hairstyle to go with your dress style?  Will you choose your dress to go with your preferred coif?  The choice is yours, but it's ever so fun to peruse through pictures of great hair while you decide.  Maybe you've always had your wedding day hairstyle solidified in your, well, head, or maybe like me, you needed to drool over some lovely locks before you made your choice.  The great news is that short or long, thin or thick, a good hairstylist can usually make your hair dreams come true with a little help from our friends: the extensions, the hair pins, and the teaser comb.

Looking at any of these pictures makes me want to get dolled up again, and I just can't make up my mind which I like better: the tidy and beautifully sculpted hairstyles or the unpredictable tendrils that seem to have a mind of their own?  Let's look at some pictures, shall we?

 First up: The unstructured look...

Or maybe the more manicured look is your preference...

By golly, I can't decide.  I like them all.  There are some mornings where I dream about having my own stylist who shows up at my door each morning to work magic on my hair so that I could rock a different hair style each day.  In the end for our wedding, I went with a very low key, unkempt look.

I was very happy with it, but why tie yourself down with just one hairstyle.  Bridal hair could be worn any day of the year right???
